The ten-year-old Jessi lives with her mother, who works on a chicken farm, in a village on the Baltic sea. The father, a circus rider, has left the family before Jessi's birth, the relationship to the mother is therefore all the more intimate. It is disturbed, as Jessi finds out that her mother has a new boyfriend she wants to even marry – Jessi is not to be understood with the possible replacement of the father and rejects him.
