Mossane is a fourteen-year-old girl who lives in a village in Senegal.
She is in love with Fara, a poor student, who has returned to the
village while the university is on strike. At birth, she had been
betrothed to Diogoye, who left to work in France. Diogoye, who provided
her parents with many things over the years, already sent a dowry, and
asked her to be married to him in the village, even in his absence, to
be later sent to France.
