In one of his most typical films, Juraj jakubisko tells three stories, each of which is set in a different war time. The story zbehovia, based on the short story Ladislav the difficult military zbeh, takes place during the first World War. Its heroes are two deserters-the villager Martin and the gypsy Kalman, who enjoy temporary freedom on the eternal flight from the gendarmes. The second story called Dominika is set in the end of the Second World War – it takes place on the farm of the village farmer Perun and his charming daughter Dominika, where eternally drunk Soviet "liberators" interest and eventually execute anyone who does not like them even a little. The last story pilgrims then depicts the wandering of a fragile virgin on earth, depopulated by a global atomic war. The girl is probably the last person left alive on the whole earth.
