The film takes place on the Karelian isthmus, where the five-year Riki holidays with the family and a lot of relatives. The shy Riki has a lively imagination and sinks often, in fantasies where djurvarelser mixed up with real events. Riki and big brother Bernt will also be fond of grannflickorna Nina and Katinka, but will be disappointed. And Riki clings again to their imaginary animal.
