The action takes place in the village of Slad in Gloucestershire, with which are associated the most vivid childhood impressions of the young hero. High grass, in which it is lowered, bringing for the first time in the village, and I adore eccentric mother, who alone is raising numerous children, rural school, with its slightly weird system of teaching and, of course, the first taste of cider country and the first kiss.
